A Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Help me and show me herein you are my Mother

Recite this beautiful prayer to honor the Blessed Mother in celebration of the liturgical feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16, and to implore the Blessed Virgin of Carmel to aid us in our necessity.

The devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel is not only rooted in ancient history, but originated from the time of the loftiest Prophet Elijah. It was in the sacred place of Mount Carmel where Elijah faithfully called on God to end the drought in Israel, and waited for a sign of rain. “And the seventh time the youth reported, ‘There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea'” (1 Kings 18:44). In that moment, “heavy rain fell” from the sky. Prophet Elijah foresaw in that “cloud” the Virgin who would “bear a son… Emmanuel” as Isaiah prophesied (7:14). Hermits who settled in Mount Carmel then followed in the footsteps of Elijah, and continued to pray as he did for the advent of the New Eve, the Virgin Mother of the Messiah. Numerous years passed, and in the 13th Century, Saint Simon Stock joined a group of hermits on Mount Carmel and became a superior general of the Carmelites. On July 16, 1251, Our Lady of Mount Carmel appeared to him cradling the Child Jesus in one arm and holding the Brown Scapular in the other.
