Saint Teresa was born to Francisco Jornet and his wife, Antonieta Ibars, in 1843 in Spain. She was the foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor, a congregation she decided to form as advised by her spiritual director after failing to be given entry to another convent. During the 1897 cholera outbreak in their country, Saint Teresa and her sisters greatly helped and never stopped caring for those afflicted with the plague. By the time of her death, their congregation had already founded more than fifty houses.

Saint Teresa of Jesus Jornet Ibars, who tirelessly served Our Lord Jesus, pray for us!
